Something very interesting I found this summer is this website about dutch/Gronigen punk, curated by the Shikari drummer. (who I had the pleasure to meet in august) Its mostly about punk/hardcore/the local scene, but theres a writeup about shikari, plus their old website, including all the lyrics, merch, list of shows,… etc. Real treasuretrove, Shikari played with bands like 125 rue montmartre & Orchid, also allegedly opened at the last At The Drive-In show?? Truly surreal stuff.

xXGr4c3IsD34dXx this is excellent info, shikari were a band i found in high school through the RYM screamo chart and I’ve always loved them, was actually planning on posting Robot Wars tomorrow in the currently-listening thread. the vocals are just so insane. gonna have to check this out in depth, thanks for sharing.

edit: damn… those shirts go hard. this is really like a rare case of actual, comprehensive documentation of a skramz band. we need more!

Shikari are really incredible yeah, one of my most listened to bands this year, rediscovered them after not listening to them since ’21.

Their drummer had a lot of fun stories to tell, allegedly the Seein’ Red people used to call Shikari’s Vocalist “vaccum” bc of his weird vocals. Also said one of Seein’ Red’s songs was about that, but I couldn’t figure out which one he was talking about. He also gave me one of the black on black print shirts actually!

empty he sounds like a vacuum cleaner allegedly 😭😭 Somewhere on bacteria there’s a vlog of them recording (I think) the Seein’ Red Split at Kuschelrock Studios (Ran by systral bassist, lots of bremencore & dystopia recorded there). Maybe you can hear what they’re talking about on that lol

orchid came into seattle so me and my buddies all drove over to the big city to see them cause how could we not, and there were a handful of openers. the story there is that the pit opened up quite a bit cause everyone was saving energy for orchid and only like 8 people of the 50 or so there were moshing, but the venues stage had these like pillars at the corners which was where the non moshers ended up standing (including me and my buddy robbie) but the moshers that night did not care there was a pillar physically blocking them from landing on the larger crowd, they just kept trying to defy physics and move sideways mid air, all they ended doing was landing ankle first into my head and hand first into the ground. some of the people over here really don’t give two fucks at all.
