A friend and me have been working on a rym list, and for that we’ve been trying to come up with a definition for emoviolence. Both of us are mostly focused on what were the main influences and current draft looks smth like this:
the genre’s root influences, the primary ones being proto-screamo -bands such as Swing Kids, Iconoclast, Honeywell, Heroin and Mohinder - as well as Bremencore - from the progenitors of the sound - like Acme, Carol (who pioneered the characteristic octave-chord shredding) and Akephal - to the canadian evolution of the sound - Union of Uranus and One Eyed God Prophecy. Lastly, early Screamo bands like Reversal of Man, also exercised a noteworthy degree of influence.
Since both of us, and most of my friends who are into screamo, all have a very similar point of view on where emoviolence comes from, I’ve been wanting some opinions who might have different perspectives! If theres key influences I’m missing tell me please!!!
Stuff I haven’t put in there is e.g. The Nation of Ulysses, who Jayson Green has repeatedly mentioned as influencing Orchid a lot, but as far as I can tell that was mainly with regards to aesthetics, and less so musically.
So yeah! Feedback pls 🙂
